Active Research Lecture Series - Platform Centre For Photographic & Digital Arts - September 19,

PLATFORM is pleased to present a lecture by Freya Olafson, the latest in our Active Research Lectures Series. PLATFORM's Active Research Lecture Series is free and open to the public. Olafson will speak about her practice and research. Societal engagement with everyday digital media is a cornerstone of Olafson’s praxis that investigates contemporary culture and the body as inextricably linked with technology. Through the use of digital tools such as Quartz Composer and Isadora software since 2006, Olafson engages both camera and cameraless visual techniques to examine how technology can animate / reinstate / destabilize the meaning(s) of the corporeal body. In this lecture Olafson will present past work in order to address her use of lens-based practices to directly inform and assist the development and finalization of her video and performance work. Discussion of past work will lead to presentation on her upcoming area of inquiry into VR and 360-video. Monday, 19 September 2016, 7:00-8:00 PM Cinematheque Theatre, 100 Arthur Street Reception to follow in the gallery.
