Collective Corps presents Intermedia artist Freya Björg Olafson new performance work CPA [Consistent Partial Attention] at the Asper Centre for Theatre & Film February 18 - 20, 2016. In partnership with dancers; Lise McMillan of Winnipeg and James Phillips of Montreal, Olafson constructs an experience which interrogates the impact of technology on our bodies and psyches.

Developed through digital collage the CPA [Consistent Partial Attention] performance is guided by a video score of pre-existing / found Internet footage of individuals improvising in their homes. The performers sight read the choreographic score by referencing diverse sources; laptop, external monitor, video projector and heads-up displays. While the performers have familiarity with the digital dances they can never fully know their ‘choreography’. Thereby CPA sustains as an exercise in ‘nowness’; the performers engage as interfaces in act of realtime translation of data / movement vocabulary from the video score. Through the rich confluence of sources we experience dance as a vernacular, learned language, permeating and crossing communities, provoking consideration upon the evolution of dance in the age of the internet.

The CPA project has been initiated by Collective Corps - a newly founded unincorporated collective - comprised of performers / dancers Freya Björg Olafson (Winnipeg), James Phillips (Montreal) and Lise McMillan (Winnipeg). The work was developed with the support of Young Lungs Dance Exchange and Centre Q - Centre for Questioning in Quyon, Quebec with consultations from Tedd Robinson of Ten Gates Dancing Inc. Collective Corps acknowledges generous support from the Manitoba Arts Council & Canada Council for the Arts to create and produce CPA [Consistent Partial Attention].
